S. B. Garda College is one of the oldest educational institutions of the South Gujarat region. The College is affiliated to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), India under Section 2 (f) and 12 (b) of the UGC Act.
The institute was established in 1945 when a Parsi philanthropist Sorabji Burjorji Garda donated a sum of Rs. 2,00,000/- with an objective of imparting education to all students without any distinction of caste or creed or nationality save and except that preference therein shall be given to Parsis. Prof. A. K. Trivedi, the first principal of the institute proudly and fondly chose the motto of the institute:

The motto of the college became the status insignia of the institution. The institute progressed and flourished higher and higher afterwards.
The institute takes pride to be the first institution in the South Gujarat region to offer the widest range of subjects. The departments for various subjects- Gujarati, Sanskrit, Persian and Economics were established in the very first year of its inception i.e. 1945. In 1946 Science Faculty was added to that of Arts providing facility to students to opt for science courses. In 1947 the subjects of English and logic were introduced and there was an addition of Psychology and Hindi subjects in 1952. Later on History and Political Science were also introduced. In 1948 Burjorji Pestonji Baria donated a sum of Rs. 2,00,000/- and the college was renamed as S. B. Garda College Arts & B. P. Baria Science Institute. In 1965 the three sons of Shri Paragji Kuverji Patel donated a sum of Rs. 1,00,000/- for the purpose of commencing a commerce faculty. With the addition of commerce faculty, the institute was again renamed S. B. Garda College (Arts) & P. K. Patel College of Commerce, Navsari and B. P. Baria Science Institute was bifurcated and established as an independent institution. After two years Post Graduate classes were added in the Arts Faculty which offered great opportunity to the students to opt for various subjects at P.G. level. Later on when the University centralized P.G. centres, colleges discontinued P.G. Programmes. The students had to go to Surat to pursue P.G. programmes. But in 1985 again permission was given to colleges to start P.G. centres and P.G. in History subject commenced in S B Garda college. In 1987 M.A. in Gujarati started and in 1992 M. Com. with the subject of Accountancy was introduced.
Over the years the college has earned a name for its excellence in the fields of academics, cultural activities, sports, NSS, NCC and other Co-curricular and Extra-Curricular activities. The institute has gained a wide repute through its extension activities and community services. The Institute strives hard to ensure academic quality and integrity of its academic programmes and is committed to fulfil and satisfy the expectations of the students, staff and the other constituencies of the society by providing effective educational opportunities and ambient environment.
At present the college offers the widest range of options with seven core subjects- English, Gujarati, Hindi, Sanskrit, Economics, Psychology and History at undergraduate level with the combination of other elective, compulsory and inter- disciplinary subjects. At post graduate level college offers degree programmes in the subjects of Gujarati, History and Psychology. In the commerce faculty the college offers commerce degrees at U.G. and P.G. level.
Today in 2026 , the college has completed 81 years of its existence. During the last 81 years, the college has contributed to the society by producing eminent personalities belonging to various fields like the college principals, professors, lecturers, school teachers, industrialists, writers, editors, entrepreneurs, journalists M.L.A.s, M.P.s and many more other professionals who are serving the society by bringing glory to their Alma Mater.
Today S. B. Garda College (Arts) & P. K. Patel College of Commerce, Navsari is one of the leading institutes in the South Gujarat Region and is relentlessly contributing to the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge, to the nourishment and cultivation of values and to the upliftment and advancement of the society it serves.

એસ. બી. ગાર્ડા કોલેજ દક્ષિણ ગુજરાત પ્રદેશની સૌથી જૂની શૈક્ષણિક સંસ્થાઓમાંની એક છે. આ કોલેજ વીર નર્મદ દક્ષિણ ગુજરાત યુનિવર્સિટી સાથે સંલગ્ન (affiliated) છે અને યુનિવર્સિટી ગ્રાન્ટ્સ કમિશન (UGC), ભારત દ્વારા યુજીસી એક્ટની કલમ 2 (f) અને 12 (b) હેઠળ માન્યતા પ્રાપ્ત છે.
આ સંસ્થાની સ્થાપના ૧૯૪૫માં થઈ હતી, જ્યારે એક પારસી પરોપકારી સોરાબજી બરજોરજી ગાર્ડાએ જાતિ, પંથ અથવા રાષ્ટ્રીયતાના કોઈ પણ ભેદભાવ વિના તમામ વિદ્યાર્થીઓને શિક્ષણ આપવાના ઉદ્દેશ્ય સાથે ₹૨,૦૦,૦૦૦/- નું દાન આપ્યું હતું, જેમાં માત્ર એટલી શરત હતી કે પારસી વિદ્યાર્થીઓને પ્રથમ પસંદગી આપવામાં આવશે. સંસ્થાના પ્રથમ પ્રિન્સિપાલ પ્રો. એ. કે. ત્રિવેદીએ ગૌરવ અને વહાલપૂર્વક સંસ્થાનું સૂત્ર (motto) પસંદ કર્યું હતું:

કોલેજનું આ સૂત્ર સંસ્થાની પ્રતિષ્ઠાનું પ્રતીક બની ગયું. ત્યારપછી સંસ્થા ઉત્તરોત્તર પ્રગતિ કરતી રહી અને વધુ ને વધુ સમૃદ્ધ થતી ગઈ.
દક્ષિણ ગુજરાત પ્રદેશમાં સૌથી વધુ વિષયોની શ્રેણી ઓફર કરનારી પ્રથમ સંસ્થા હોવાનું ગૌરવ આ કોલેજ ધરાવે છે. તેની સ્થાપનાના પ્રથમ વર્ષ એટલે કે ૧૯૪૫માં જ ગુજરાતી, સંસ્કૃત, પર્શિયન (ફારસી) અને અર્થશાસ્ત્ર જેવા વિવિધ વિષયોના વિભાગો શરૂ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા.
૧૯૪૬: આર્ટસની સાથે સાયન્સ ફેકલ્ટી (વિજ્ઞાન પ્રવાહ) ઉમેરવામાં આવી, જેથી વિદ્યાર્થીઓને સાયન્સ કોર્સ પસંદ કરવાની સુવિધા મળી.
૧૯૪૭: અંગ્રેજી અને લોજિક (તર્કશાસ્ત્ર) વિષયો દાખલ કરવામાં આવ્યા.
૧૯૫૨: મનોવિજ્ઞાન (Psychology) અને હિન્દી વિષયોનો ઉમેરો થયો. ત્યારબાદ ઇતિહાસ અને રાજ્યશાસ્ત્ર (Political Science) પણ શરૂ કરવામાં આવ્યા.
૧૯૪૮: બરજોરજી પેસ્ટનજી બારિયાએ ₹૨,૦૦,૦૦૦/- નું દાન આપ્યું અને કોલેજનું નામ બદલીને એસ. બી. ગાર્ડા કોલેજ આર્ટસ એન્ડ બી. પી. બારિયા સાયન્સ ઇન્સ્ટિટ્યુટ કરવામાં આવ્યું.
૧૯૬૫: શ્રી પરાગજી કુંવરજી પટેલના ત્રણ પુત્રોએ કોમર્સ ફેકલ્ટી (વાણિજ્ય પ્રવાહ) શરૂ કરવાના હેતુથી ₹૧,૦૦,૦૦૦/- નું દાન આપ્યું. કોમર્સ ફેકલ્ટી ઉમેરાવા સાથે, સંસ્થાનું ફરીથી નામકરણ એસ. બી. ગાર્ડા કોલેજ (આર્ટસ) અને પી. કે. પટેલ કોલેજ ઓફ કોમર્સ, નવસારી કરવામાં આવ્યું અને બી. પી. બારિયા સાયન્સ ઇન્સ્ટિટ્યુટ વિભાજિત થઈને એક સ્વતંત્ર સંસ્થા તરીકે સ્થાપિત થઈ.
બે વર્ષ પછી, આર્ટસ ફેકલ્ટીમાં અનુસ્નાતક (Post Graduate - P.G.) વર્ગો ઉમેરવામાં આવ્યા, જેણે વિદ્યાર્થીઓને પી.જી. સ્તરે વિવિધ વિષયો પસંદ કરવાની ઉત્તમ તક પૂરી પાડી. પાછળથી જ્યારે યુનિવર્સિટીએ પી.જી. કેન્દ્રોનું કેન્દ્રીકરણ કર્યું, ત્યારે કોલેજોએ પી.જી. પ્રોગ્રામ બંધ કર્યા અને વિદ્યાર્થીઓને પી.જી. અભ્યાસ માટે સુરત જવું પડતું હતું. પરંતુ ૧૯૮૫માં ફરીથી કોલેજોને પી.જી. સેન્ટરો શરૂ કરવાની મંજૂરી આપવામાં આવી અને એસ.બી. ગાર્ડા કોલેજમાં ઇતિહાસ વિષયમાં પી.જી. શરૂ થયું. ૧૯૮૭માં ગુજરાતીમાં એમ.એ. (M.A.) અને ૧૯૯૨માં એકાઉન્ટન્સી વિષય સાથે એમ.કોમ. (M.Com.) શરૂ કરવામાં આવ્યું.
વર્ષોથી આ કોલેજે શિક્ષણ, સાંસ્કૃતિક પ્રવૃત્તિઓ, રમતગમત, NSS, NCC અને અન્ય સહ-અભ્યાસિક તેમજ ઇતર પ્રવૃત્તિઓના ક્ષેત્રમાં શ્રેષ્ઠતા માટે નામ કમાવ્યું છે. સંસ્થાએ તેની વિસ્તરણ પ્રવૃત્તિઓ અને સામુદાયિક સેવાઓ દ્વારા વ્યાપક પ્રતિષ્ઠા મેળવી છે. સંસ્થા તેના શૈક્ષણિક કાર્યક્રમોની ગુણવત્તા અને અખંડિતતા સુનિશ્ચિત કરવા સખત મહેનત કરે છે અને વિદ્યાર્થીઓ, સ્ટાફ તેમજ સમાજના અન્ય વર્ગોની અપેક્ષાઓને અસરકારક શૈક્ષણિક તકો અને સાનુકૂળ વાતાવરણ પૂરું પાડીને પૂર્ણ કરવા માટે પ્રતિબદ્ધ છે.
વર્તમાન સમયમાં, કોલેજ સ્નાતક (Undergraduate) સ્તરે સાત મુખ્ય વિષયો — અંગ્રેજી, ગુજરાતી, હિન્દી, સંસ્કૃત, અર્થશાસ્ત્ર, મનોવિજ્ઞાન અને ઇતિહાસ સાથે અન્ય વૈકલ્પિક, ફરજિયાત અને આંતર-વિદ્યાશાખીય (inter-disciplinary) વિષયોના સંયોજન સાથે સૌથી વ્યાપક વિકલ્પો પ્રદાન કરે છે. અનુસ્નાતક (Post Graduate) સ્તરે કોલેજ ગુજરાતી,ઇતિહાસ અને મનોવિજ્ઞાન વિષયોમાં ડિગ્રી પ્રોગ્રામ ઓફર કરે છે. કોમર્સ ફેકલ્ટીમાં, કોલેજ યુ.જી. અને પી.જી. સ્તરે કોમર્સની ડિગ્રીઓ ઓફર કરે છે.
આજે ૨૦૨૬ માં, કોલેજે તેના અસ્તિત્વના ૮૧ વર્ષ પૂર્ણ કર્યા છે. છેલ્લા ૮૧ વર્ષો દરમિયાન, કોલેજે સમાજને વિવિધ ક્ષેત્રોના પ્રતિષ્ઠિત વ્યક્તિત્વો આપીને યોગદાન આપ્યું છે, જેમાં કોલેજના પ્રિન્સિપાલ, પ્રોફેસરો, લેક્ચરર્સ, શાળાના શિક્ષકો, ઉદ્યોગપતિઓ, લેખકો, તંત્રીઓ, ઉદ્યોગસાહસિકો, પત્રકારો, ધારાસભ્યો (M.L.A.s), સાંસદો (M.P.s) અને અન્ય ઘણા વ્યાવસાયિકોનો સમાવેશ થાય છે, જેઓ પોતાની આલ્મા મેટર (માતૃસંસ્થા)નું ગૌરવ વધારીને સમાજની સેવા કરી રહ્યા છે.
આજે એસ. બી. ગાર્ડા કોલેજ (આર્ટસ) અને પી. કે. પટેલ કોલેજ ઓફ કોમર્સ, નવસારી દક્ષિણ ગુજરાત પ્રદેશની અગ્રણી સંસ્થાઓમાંની એક છે અને જ્ઞાનના વહન અને પ્રસારમાં, મૂલ્યોના સંવર્ધન અને ઉછેરમાં, તથા તે જે સમાજની સેવા કરે છે તેના ઉત્થાન અને પ્રગતિ માટે અવિરતપણે યોગદાન આપી રહી છે.
