Accountancy Department

Introduction and Foundational Legacy

The Department of Accountancy at S. B. Garda College (Arts) & P. K. Patel College of Commerce, Navsari, has been a cornerstone of commerce education since its inception in 1965. For over six decades, the department has remained steadfastly committed to academic excellence, professional competence, and value-based learning. It plays a pivotal institutional role in transforming aspiring students into highly skilled accounting professionals, financial analysts, corporate auditors, and ethically responsible citizens equipped to drive growth in the business and industrial sectors.

Academic Architecture and Specializations

To address the emerging demands for higher specialization, the department expanded its academic horizons by establishing the M.Com. Post Graduate Department in the academic year 1991–92. Today, the department offers a robust educational pathway spanning both undergraduate and postgraduate tiers:

  • Undergraduate (Graduate) Level: Students are offered specialized tracks in Advanced Accountancy and Auditing, seamlessly integrated with Statistics. This core combination builds strong conceptual clarity, numerical acumen, and the data-driven problem-solving skills required in contemporary commerce.
  • Postgraduate (P.G.) Level: The M.Com. program offers a highly specialized curriculum in "Financial and Management Accountancy". This track focuses heavily on advanced corporate accounting practices, capital management strategies, complex taxation frameworks, strategic auditing, and executive managerial decision-making.

Pedagogical Innovation and NEP 2020 Alignment

In strict alignment with the directives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department actively champions a learner-centric, outcome-based, and multidisciplinary education model. The comprehensive curriculum covers core domains such as Corporate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Direct & Indirect Taxation, Banking, Business Law, and Financial Management.

Going beyond traditional lecture-based methods, the department prioritizes experiential learning and digital literacy. Theoretical knowledge is systematically reinforced through realistic case studies, hands-on projects, industry-linked internships, academic seminars, field surveys, and ICT-enabled learning environments. To cultivate industry-ready graduates, the department regularly hosts corporate expert lectures, entrepreneurship awareness bootcamps, financial literacy drives, and career guidance programs.

Career Pathways

Through its rigorous focus on employability, analytical thinking, and professional integrity, the department prepares its alumni to excel across a wide spectrum of career paths, including professional certifications (CA, CS, CMA), banking and financial services, corporate taxation, forensic auditing, entrepreneurship, academic research, and public administration.
