Introduction and Foundational Legacy
The Department of History at S. B. Garda College (Arts) & P. K. Patel College of Commerce, Navsari, was established in 1952 with a clear academic mandate: to promote comprehensive historical awareness, critical cross-cultural understanding, and analytical thinking among students. For over seven decades, the department has been an invaluable asset to the institution, delivering elite-tier education in Indian and World History while steadfastly nurturing values of national integration, historical preservation, and socio-civic responsibility.
Demonstrating an early commitment to advanced humanitarian research, the department introduced its Post Graduate (P.G.) programme in History in 1964. Following the structural educational reforms of 1970, the university centralized postgraduate centers, moving the department's P.G. wing to the University Department.
However, under subsequent decentralized university policies, the department successfully restarted its Post Graduate Department in the college in 1985. This crucial revitalization restored its rich regional academic tradition, allowing the department to offer a complete educational ecosystem from foundational undergraduate degrees to advanced master's level research.
