The Department of Psychology at S. B. Garda College (Arts) & P. K. Patel College of Commerce, Navsari, was established in 1952 with a visionary mandate: to promote a scientific understanding of human behavior, mental processes, and holistic personality development.
A historic milestone for the institution was the establishment of the Psychology Laboratory in 1955, which proudly stands as the first-ever Psychology Laboratory in the State of Gujarat. Serving as a pioneering hub for experimental research, psychological testing, and practical training, this laboratory revolutionized behavioral science education across South Gujarat, setting a benchmark for empirical academic inquiry.
Demonstrating an early commitment to advanced research, the department launched its Post Graduate (P.G.) program in 1955. Following an institutional restructuring and the centralization of postgraduate centers in 1970, the P.G. wing was temporarily transitioned to the University Department.
Honoring its deep academic legacy and addressing the surging contemporary demand for mental health professionals, the department successfully restarted its Post Graduate Programme in Psychology in the year 2023. Today, the department offers a seamless educational continuum from undergraduate foundations to advanced postgraduate specialization.
